Giving your child Nurofen for children

If your child has ever had an allergic reaction or runny nose after taking NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), like ibuprofen or aspirin, please don’t give them NUROFEN FOR CHILDREN. If they haven’t taken an NSAID before, please speak to your doctor before using Nurofen for Children.

My child is allergic to aspirin, can I give them Nurofen for Children?

Please don’t give your child Nurofen for Children if they’ve had an allergic reaction to aspirin.

Can I give my child Nurofen for Children if they have a stomach ulcer?

Please speak to your doctor before doing so. You shouldn’t give your child Nurofen for Children if they’ve ever had stomach bleeding (or perforation of the stomach or bowel).

When can I give my child Nurofen for Children, without asking my doctor?

For any type of pain you’re familiar with. For instance, headaches, cold and flu pains, toothache and fever. Always read the label to ensure the medicine is suitable for your child.

Can my child take Nurofen for Children if they’re taking prescribed medicine(s)?

As with all over the counter medicines, if your child is already taking a prescription medication always consult your pharmacist or your doctor first.

When should I give Nurofen for Children?

As soon as you notice that your child is suffering from pain or has a fever.

Do I have to give Nurofen for Children with food?

No. Nurofen for Children doesn’t need to be taken with food.

Who can tell me more about which pain relief is best for my child?

Your local pharmacist will help you. However, if your child’s in severe pain or the pain goes on for longer than you think it should, please speak to your doctor.

• Before you give your child Nurofen for Children please read the label and leaflet carefully to make sure the product is suitable.
• Never give more than the recommended dose
• Never give more than one medicine containing the same type of active ingredient, i.e. an NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) at a time. The labels of both medicines will help you determine this.
• Always check with your doctor or pharmacist if you’re unsure about giving your baby or child Nurofen for Children
