Nurofen - who are we?
Like so many mums and dads, you probably recognise the famous Nurofen for Children target. You might also know that Nurofen is the number one selling brand in adult oral pain-relief. But who exactly are we?
The inventors of ibuprofen
Nurofen and Nurofen for Children are made by Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare Ltd. It was in the 1960s that 3 scientists from Boots developed ibuprofen – the active ingredient in Nurofen and Nurofen for Children.
At first ibuprofen was a prescription-only medicine. But it gained a reputation as an effective pain-reliever and in 1983 it was approved as an over-the-counter solution. Nurofen for adults was launched in August of that year.
A first for children
After the success of Nurofen we realised something was missing. Many parents liked Nurofen for adults and trusted it. But they couldn’t give it to their children. So after listening to their needs and concerns, we developed the very first ibuprofen-based pain-relief for babies and children. It was launched as Nurofen for Children in 1999.
Leaders in innovation
We’ve been dedicated to constant and never-ending improvement since the launch of Nurofen for Children. We talk to mums and dads like you. We find out what you want for your children and what you’d like us to improve. And then, most importantly, we deliver.
For instance, we understand that getting your child to take medicine can be a battle – if it doesn’t taste right it probably won’t go down! That’s why Nurofen for Children comes in Orange flavour.
And that’s not all. We’ve helped make it even easier to give your child the correct dose – with every bottle of Nurofen for Children, you’ll find either a two-ended measuring spoon (2.5ml and 5ml) or an easy dosing syringe. Nurofen for Children 60mg Suppositories age 3 months - 2 years now makes it easier to treat babies who are vomiting or find it difficult to swallow.
What does the future hold?
More innovation. More needs met. More pain soothed. More happy children. It’s what we’re working towards every day.
